Kena: Bridge of Spirits was the debut title from Ember Lab, a studio that stepped into the video game industry for the first time after a background in animation. The game was a big success in 2021 and won several awards at The Game Awards, specifically for Best Independent Game and Best Debut Game. Almost five years later, the sequel, Kena: Scars of Kosmora, was announced during February’s PlayStation State of Play. The game was supposed to launch in 2026, but the development team has now confirmed a delay to 2027.
Ember Lab said it needs more time, explaining that Scars of Kosmora is significantly larger in scope than the original. The extra time will allow the team to bring the sequel up to the quality bar set by Bridge of Spirits. Ember Lab did, however, reveal what we can expect from Kena’s new adventure.
Kena is now a more experienced spirit guide, helping the dead free themselves from their suffering. The heroine must also face her own demons, which leads her to the mysterious island of Kosmora with a childhood friend in search of answers about their shared past. Kena will explore Kosmora alongside a magical dog that helps her in combat and with solving puzzles.
Kena: Scars of Kosmora launches in 2027 for PC and PS5.
